Healthy Democracy Leadership Series – Stronger Leaders, Stronger Communities

This program is designed to equip candidates with the tools, resilience, and confidence to meet today’s political challenges head-on.

The series is offered in two streams: one for first-time candidates and one for candidates considering re-election. The courses provide a supportive, skills-focused environment to strengthen your leadership foundation and reconnect with the values that guide public service. Each stream includes four sessions. Who Can Run:
To run as a candidate in a municipal election, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
  • Be a resident of the municipality, a non-resident property owner or tenant, or the spouse of a non-resident owner or tenant; and
  • Not be legally prohibited from voting or holding municipal office.

Nominations for the 2026 Election:

  • Nominations open on Friday, May 1, 2026.
  • Nominations close on Friday, August 21, 2026.
  • Candidates must book an appointment to submit their nomination and pay a fee of $100 ($200 for head of council positions).
